Homicide rate slows, up 20% versus 2011

South Chicago and South Deering each recorded two homicides in the last two weeks, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.

In South Chicago, a 25-year-old man was shot to death Sunday in the 8600 block of South Kingston Avenue, police said. On Oct. 10, a 28-year-old man was fatally shot in the 3000 block of East 83rd Street, according to officials.

In South Deering, a 30-year-old man was shot to death Sunday in the 9800 block of South Merrill Avenue, police said. Two days earlier, an 18-year-old man was fatally shot in the 2300 block of East 99th Street, according to officials.

Citywide, gunshot homicides were recorded in the last two weeks in Austin, Belmont Cragin, Bridgeport, Chatham, Englewood, Greater Grand Crossing, Roseland, South Shore, Washington Park, West Englewood, West Garfield Park and Woodlawn, according to RedEye information.

Twenty-three homicides have been recorded so far this month. Forty-eight homicides were logged in October 2011, according to RedEye data.
