Entrepreneur Ned Lamont burst into the public spotlight in 2006 when he won the Democratic Party¿s nomination away from Incumbent U.S. Senator Joseph Lieberman. Lieberman ultimately kept his seat by running as an Independent, but Lamont¿s candidacy underscored the state¿s great dissatisfaction with the Iraq war and Lieberman¿s support of it. Lamont had relatively little experience in public office, but was able to use his great personal wealth to jump start his candidacy.
