Linda Chapin served as Orange County's first elected chairman, a post now officially referred to as mayor after voters approved a title change in 2004. Before being chairman, the Democrat served as an Orange County commissioner. She lost to then-little known Republican Ric Keller. In 2001, she became the director of the Metropolitan Center for Regional Studies at the University of Central Florida, where she currently serves. Most recently, Chapin chaired a citizen ethics and campaign reform task force, whose proposals go to elected county leaders for consideration in early 2008.
