5. Maryland's model for gun regulation

Tomorrow, Gov. Martin O'Malley plans to sign into law the most comprehensive gun control legislation Maryland has seen in at least 25 years, a bill that will not only help guard against a mass shooting incident, like December's massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School, but will also help fight the day-to-day violence that plagues Baltimore and other communities. The bill has become doubly important with the failure — at least for the moment — of attempts to tighten gun laws on the federal level, both because it will make Marylanders safer and because it can serve as a model for other states as they seek ways to address gun violence.

During the recent gun rights rally in Bel Air that was sponsored by the Harford County Republican Central Committee, one likely candidate for sheriff next year uttered the ultimate sound bite.

  9. A tale of two Marylanders: One stays and prospers, the other cuts and runs

I was filled with admiration after reading about Kevin Plank's dedication to staying in his home state of Maryland ("Under Armour founder Kevin Plank sees himself as the underdog," May 9). I have no doubt that he will achieve his goal of growing Under Armour into a Fortune 500 company.

  11. Gun advocates should take aim at real scandals

Last month, I received emails from two people I know but who don't know each other: one a close friend and Second Amendment supporter, and the other a regular reader who sends me news items she believes the "liberal media" are willfully suppressing.

  15. With rights come responsibilities and some limits [editorial]

In much the same way the recent drug disposal day organized in Harford County was a valuable public service for people looking to safely divest themselves of unwanted medications, the gun turn-in day planned Saturday in Harford County and at locations...
