  1. Bush deserves the criticism he's getting

When I read Stanley J. Glinka's recent letter defending the presidency of George W. Bush I wanted to laugh, but it was 6 a.m. and I did not want to wake up my still sleeping wife ("Stop blaming Bush," May 1).

  3. Not even the Boston bombing can unite a fractured America

Ordinarily, I'd thank you for writing.
Ordinarily, I'd thank you for writing. But truth is, I am not grateful you wrote; your note last week was one of the more troubling things I have read. I do not blame you for leaving it unsigned. "We stand together," I had written. "We stand defiant....

  5. If Ben Carson really wants 'rational' discussion, why's he on Fox News so often?

  7. Will Obama's brain initiative unlock the mysteries of the Republican mind?

President Barack Obama wants to invest an initial $110 billion in a study of the human brain that could have benefits as great as those achieved by the Human Genome Project. Maybe the first study should be done on the one-track minds of tea party Republicans who will undoubtedly oppose funding for the study because their brains are fixated on the single idea that government can do nothing right.

  9. Why is GOP self-destructive?

Why do Republicans keep attacking their members? They bicker and denounce each other. That's not how you win elections. Case in point is the ill-fated 2008 ticket of Sen. John McCain and Gov. Sarah Palin. Ms. Palin and her family were ruthlessly attacked — by her own party — which contributed to Senator McCain losing his bid for the presidency. The latest example is Dr. Benjamin Carson who has expressed no desire to position himself for public office and is instead voicing strong, sensible solutions to some of the problems in this country.

  11. How come we don't hear about 'conservative media bias'?

    Liberal media bias.
Liberal media bias. So incessant is this complaint from conservatives that the three words string together as one, like Holy Roman Empire. But like the old saw about that infamous regime being neither holy nor Roman nor an empire, liberal media bias...

  13. The GOP needs to split in two

The Sun editorial "The GOP confronts its 'stuffy old men' problem" (March 19) was right on the mark. My solution is to divide the Republican Party in two.

  21. A new GOP, or just a cosmetic touchup?

Maybe the party is finally over.
Maybe the party is finally over. Meaning not simply the Grand Old Party, but more specifically the bacchanal of the bizarre and carnival of crazy to which it has lately devolved. So obvious has this devolution become that even Republican stalwarts...
