  1. Breathless over Benghazi: Republicans can't help overplaying their hand

Republicans could make an easy hit on the Obama administration by highlighting the State Department's apparent bureaucratic blundering during and after the deadly terrorist attack on the American consulate in Benghazi, Libya, last fall, but they refuse to settle for such a small political prize. Instead, they have got themselves all steamed up and snarling about heinous, impeachable offenses that are figments of their imaginations.

  5. Obama's red line on Syria gets squiggly

The hawks are squawking. Congressional conservatives and the right-wing media are blasting President Barack Obama for going soft on the Syrians. The president insists there is a "game-changing" red line the Syrian government will have crossed if it is found to have used chemical weapons against its people, but he has bent the red line so far, the hawks say, that not only the Syrians, but the Iranians and North Koreans will conclude Mr. Obama is a man with a marshmallow spine whose warnings can be flouted with impunity.

  7. Whose side is the NRA on?

Terrorism, whether practiced in the U.S. or overseas, can be defined as a deliberate act of violence to instill fear in a target audience. We fight terrorism when we stay calm but resolute; we abet terrorists when our response is to panic or try to foment panic in others.

  9. Bush was a lousy president

I am writing response to the letter writer who stated that the policy of forcing banks to give loans to people who could not afford them was pushed by Rep. Barney Frank and Sen. Chris Dodd ("Stop blaming Bush," May 1).

  11. Bush deserves the criticism he's getting

When I read Stanley J. Glinka's recent letter defending the presidency of George W. Bush I wanted to laugh, but it was 6 a.m. and I did not want to wake up my still sleeping wife ("Stop blaming Bush," May 1).

  13. It's time to stop blaming Bush

I am not a fan of former President George W. Bush, but I must comment on the hatchet job that was The Sun's editorial about the opening of the Bush library in Dallas ("Misoverestimating Bush," April 28).

  15. Fuss over Bush library masks the ugly truth of his presidency

The ingratiating display at the opening of the George W. Bush Presidential Library in Dallas last week simulated reverence for a failed president who plunged us into massive debt, polarized Americans and made America the target of Muslim radicals and homegrown terrorists ("Bush family, Hillary Clinton flock to Texas," April 25).

  19. Misoverestimating George W. Bush

It will be many years yet before historians can make their full assessment of the presidency of George W. Bush, but we have a sneaking suspicion their conclusions will not be nearly as generous as the puffery that has accompanied the opening of his presidential library this past week on the campus of Southern Methodist University.
