  3. Female vs. male senators

As the son of a woman, the husband of a woman and the father of daughters and granddaughters, I celebrate the record number of females who are now United States senators. However, I do see some differences in the way these and other women are treated, depending on their party, policies and beliefs.

  17. Today's Buzz: Allen West for Lt. Gov?

The lieutenant governor’s job in Florida has been open since Jennifer Carroll’s surprise resignation in March because of her prior work for an Internet café operator. Gov. Rick Scott said he would take his time filling the position, but told a radio interviewer this week that former South Florida Congressman Allen West would be “a great lieutenant governor.” West, a one-term representative who lost his seat last year, was a favorite of tea party conservatives. He attracted national attention for his controversial comments, like referring to members of the House Progressive Caucus  as Communists, comparing dependence on Social Security to slavery, and calling Democratic National Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz “vile.” Do you agree with Scott that West would be a great lieutenant governor? Do you think Scott would have a better chance of winning re-election with West as his running mate? Talk about it!
