  3. Arnold Schwarzenegger: 'Total reprobate'

<em>"You can't run from your mistakes. You have to confront them." -- Arnold Schwarzenegger </em>
"You can't run from your mistakes. You have to confront them." -- Arnold Schwarzenegger Believe it or not, there was a time when people didn't go on TV to confess their sins. That was back when most understood what sin is, before everything became...

  5. From Sun Magazine: A little less Duff

Duff Goldman quite literally ate his way across America to film the series "Sugar High" last year &mdash; from sea to sugary sea. And we aren't talking Hollywood smoke-and-mirrors eating, where it looks like someone is tasting something but is really spitting it into an off-camera bucket. It was real &mdash; all too real, as Goldman now realizes.

  11. School shootings: why they do it

    "It can't happen here."
"It can't happen here." From the safety of suburban Maryland, it is only natural to think that random shootings erupting in movie theaters in Colorado will not visit our neighborhoods. Safe, quiet, stable communities are not the places we imagine when we...

  15. On beauty, with Susan Heydt

    What makes a person beautiful?
What makes a person beautiful? Susan Heydt doesn’t answer that question with “cosmetics,” which might be odd coming from a woman who makes a living as a makeup artist. For her, beauty is on the inside, and makeup is about how a person...

In the more than 45 years since the Prime Rib opened, precious little has changed at the iconic midtown restaurant.
In the more than 45 years since the Prime Rib opened, precious little has changed at the iconic midtown restaurant. Walking in is like stepping into a bygone era: Well-dressed diners carve into steaks the size of dinner plates while waiters in suits...

  19. Total Recall remake: why bother?

I have a bad feeling about the remake of <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0100802/" target="_blank">"Total Recall," </a>the sci-fi thriller that was adapted from <a href="http://www.philipkdick.com/works_stories.html" target="_blank">Philip K. Dick's 1966 short story "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale."</a> The1990 movie, which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sharon Stone, was a masterpiece. (And for my money, the best thing Schwarzenegger ever made, with the possible exception of "True Lies.")

  23. 'Conan' in 3-D might be a mite too much might

<strong>"Conan the Barbarian"</strong> is a juvenile fantasy, but it has so much sword-swinging violence that the movie merits its "R" rating. Although the muscular title character survives intact, he often finds himself stepping over the severed limbs of warriors who did not fare as well on the battlefield.
