Edith Prague has been known as an outspoken advocate for the elderly and has represented Connecticut¿s 19th Senatorial District since 1994. Before that, she served four terms in the state House of Representatives and also served as commissioner of the now-defunct State Department on Aging. As aging commissioner, she established a statewide health-insurance program and helped bring the first assisted living facilities to the state. Prague was fired from that job by then-Gov. Lowell Weicker, however, when she opposed budget cuts and a reorganization that would affect her department. In the senate she serves as chair of the Labor and Public Employees Committee, and as vice chair of the Select Committee on Aging. Prague earned degrees at Eastern Connecticut State University and the University of Connecticut School of Social Work. She was born Nov. 23, 1925, and has four daughters.
