Affordable housing developer buys American Legion property

American Legion Wilmette Post 46 has sold its former headquarters at 1925 Wilmette Ave. to an affordable housing developer for $464,000. Affordable housing advocates and the post commander are touting the sale as a positive step for the legion and for the village. Richard Koenig, executive director of the Northbrook-based Housing Opportunity Development Corporation, said the corporation, which develops and manages affordable housing in Chicago's north suburbs, closed its deal with American Legion Post 46 on June 25.
