Democrats name former congressman to vacated Ohio House seat

Democrats in the Ohio House have picked a former congressman to fill a seat vacated this summer after a northeast Ohio lawmaker resigned. Democratic leaders said Tuesday that John Boccieri (boh-CHEHR'-ee), a former U.S. House member and former state legislator, will replace ex-Rep. Ronald Gerberry. Gerberry was the state House's longest-serving Democrat. He stepped down in August and was convicted of unlawful compensation of a public official. Boccieri, of Poland, will represent the 59th District. He served in the Ohio House from 2001 to 2006 before moving to the state Senate.
