Jerry Roper, former Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce president, dies at 74

Jerry Roper, former president of the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce, died Sunday at age 74 after a seven-year battle with prostate cancer, a spokesman for the family said Monday. Roper also was a former head of the Chicago convention bureau. Roper died of complications from the cancer, said Robert Allegrini, a spokesman for the Roper family. Roper, a longtime resident of Chicago's South Loop, is survived by his wife, Carol, a son, Jerry Jr., a daughter, Tani Sison, and two grandchildren. In 2013, Roper announced he would retire from the chamber of commerce but said his illness played no part in his decision. "I still have a lot of juice," Roper told the Tribune....
