PROTECT IP Act

PROTECT IP was a U.S. Senate bill defeated in early 2012. The bill was largely an echo of more famous sister legislation in the House known popularly as SOPA. The defeat of both bills came when they became popularly viewed as a government mandate for digital censorship.

As of spring 2012, many of the same organizations that took part in protesting SOPA are now actively fighting the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (CISPA), which many activists argue similarly infringes on citizens' civil liberties
