Top adviser to Maryland lawmakers to retire

The top budget and policy analyst advising Maryland lawmakers plans to retire from state government this year.

Warren Deschenaux, who is executive director of the Department of Legislative Services, plans to retire Dec. 1.

He oversees a staff of analysts who examine thousands of bills introduced in the General Assembly each year and offer nonpartisan analysis of the policy and fiscal implications of the bills.

House Speaker Michael E. Busch and Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller said Tuesday they appointed a bipartisan team to help with a national search for Deschenaux’s replacement.
