Md. AmeriCorps programs receive $15.6M in grants

The federal agency that oversees AmeriCorps announced Thursday it is awarding $15.6 million to its Maryland-based programs, most of which will be used to mentor at-risk youth, expand health services and provide support to veterans and refugees.

The Notre Dame Mission Volunteers Program, Inc., based in Baltimore, the Civic Works Service Corps, also in Baltimore, and the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Maryland Conservation Corps were among the recipients of the awards.

Sen. Barbara A. Mikulski, a Maryland lawmaker and the top-ranking Democrat on the Senate Appropriations Committee, had secured additional money for the program nationally in a federal spending bill...
