Md. should adopt shared child custody as ideal [Letter]

Maryland House Bill 687 created a commission to hold public hearings as part of the process for studying child custody issues in Maryland. The public hearings have been a success with dozens of citizens testifying in support of a rebuttal presumption of shared parenting in cases of divorce. This means simply that if a married couple divorces, the courts would decide child custody from a starting point of children spending approximately equal time with both parents, with an exception for violence or other abuse.
