Guest column: Annapolis loves its backyard hens

It's back. Annapolis' charming periodic kerfuffle over backyard hens was kicked off last week in the City Council. To its credit, the council welcomed hens back into our fair town a few years back. Well, kind of. A few alderpersons were skittish and imposed all sorts of restrictions (one of them unlawful, it turns out). And one was a "sunset provision" that would shoo our hens back out of town after only three years. Thankfully, Aldermen Jared Littmann and Ian Pfeiffer have introduced legislation to drop that sunset provision. The 16 holders of hen permits are cheering, and the sun may rise again tomorrow for our town's feathered friends. Hens do so many...
