James E. Smith, businessman

James E. Smith, a retired Baltimore businessman and Navy veteran, died Saturday at the University of Maryland Medical Center of a heart attack. He was 92. The son of George Smith and Ethel Dashields Smith, James Earl Smith was born and raised in Baltimore. He was a graduate of Polytechnic Institute. He enlisted in the Navy in 1943 and served with the Seabees. He was discharged in 1955. Mr. Smith established United Sheet Metal Co. in Baltimore and operated the business until selling it in the late 1970s. He then worked as chief engineer at Fort Meade High School until retiring in 1994. In 2010, Mr. Smith and his wife of 40 years, the former Dolores Virginia Siejack, moved to Chestertown....
