Richard H. Dillon, of Charlevoix, died Saturday, July 2, 2011, at his home. He was born in Ann Arbor to Harold and Bernice (Worner) Dillon. Dick earned a bachelor of science degree from Michigan State University. He served with the Merchant Marine, then worked for thirty years at IBM as a systems engineer.
On March 29, 1980, Dick married Helen Keating in Marquette. They made their home in Charlevoix in 1987. Dick was a captain on the Ironton Ferry for 20 years.
Genoa, Ill.; daughter, Deborah (Mike) Peters of Crystal Lake, Ill.; grandchildren, James, and Marguerite Peters; brother, Joseph Dillon of Grand Rapids; several nieces and their spouses.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 12, at St. Mary's Church in Charlevoix, the Rev. James K. Gardiner will officiate. Friends may meet Dick's family in the gathering space at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
