Ralph E. Kitson Jr., 86, of East Jordan, died Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, at Grandvue Medical Care Facility.
He was born on Aug. 2, 1927, in East Jordan, the son of Ralph E. Sr. and Florence (McPherson) Kitson.
United States Army Air Corps as a radio operator during World War II.
On March 16, 1963, in Cadillac, Mich., he married Luezetta "Zettie" Smith.
Ralph had worked for the city of East Jordan from June 6, 1966, until his retirement on July 28, 1989. He had worked for the DPW, as the city superintendent for three years and the city assessor for a couple of years. Afterward, he drove school bus for the East Jordan Public Schools from 1990 to 2001.
He was a member of the Rebec-Hosler-Sweet Post No. 227 of the American Legion in East Jordan.
Ralph was an outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, making birdhouses, bowling and was a sports fan.
He is survived by his wife, Luezetta "Zettie" Kitson, of East Jordan; eight children, Steaven (Encar) Kitson of Virginia Beach, Va., Sherry (Jeff) Gransden of Whitmore Lake, Beverly (Albert) Joseph of East Jordan, Marsha Ibarra of East Jordan, Sheilah (George) Blackledge of Boyne Falls, Kerri Kitson of Brighton, Yvonne Pentecost of Cheboygan and Greg (Meg) Kitson of East Jordan; 31 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Edith June Reich, of East Jordan.
Ralph was preceded in death by three children, Stanley Kitson, Patricia Kitson-Stone and Alan Kitson; three brothers; and two sisters.
The funeral service was 11 a.m. today, Monday, Aug. 26, at the Penzien Funeral Homes Inc. in East Jordan. Burial in Sunset Hill Cemetery, East Jordan.
Memorials may be given to East Jordan United Methodist Church, Grandvue Medical Care Facility, or the East Jordan Ambulance Association.
