Kan was named "Club Hero" by his club. When sending the nomination to the Rotary District for approval, Sunrise Rotary chose these words to describe their club hero: "Jim's attitude is infectious fun -- he goes to bat willingly for Rotary events and has anchored many of our club's key foundational components year after year without a single complaint. Plus, he's just a great guy."
Kan is a charter member of the Sunrise Rotary Club, served as its first club president and is a third generation Rotarian.
Hayes was awarded the districtwide Club Builder Award which recognizes Rotarians who have made a significant impact in supporting and strengthening their clubs. Only one nomination per district can be submitted to Rotary International each year. Hayes stood out above 2,700 Rotarians from 61 clubs in District 6290. In submitting the nomination the club chose these words: "his enthusiasm, organizational skills and outstanding leadership resulted in increased membership, additional projects, culmination of our clubs first international project, increased exposure within our community, and recognition within our Rotary District and state with accolades and awards; but perhaps most meaningful is that Andy Hayes infuses our club with a spirit that makes it both fun AND cool to be involved."
The Petoskey Sunrise Rotary Club meets at 7:30 a.m. every Tuesday at the Petoskey United Methodist Church. For more information, visit www.petoskeyrotarysunrise.org.
