Organizers of an upcoming international youth performance in Charlevoix are seeking host families to house the performers while they are in town.
Symbolica an all-boy flag waving dance group from Belgium will present performance at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 13, at the Odmark Pavilion in Charlevoix.
Anyone who is interested serving as a host to the performers may call Stutzman at (231) 675-4800.
Symbolica consists boys between 11 and 18 years of age from the town of Genk, Belgium. The group was founded in 1969 in the Sint-Jan Berchmans College in Genk and is still connected to the school. In 2009, Symbolica celebrated its 40th year by developing a completely new show "Rhythm & Flags" which portrays the group's new feeling of strength and dynamism. The show's fresh content showcases the typical Flemish folk art of flag dancing in a new way.
The event will also include a performance by the Zirka Ukranain Dance Ensemble from, Dauphine, Canada. "Zirka" translates from Ukrainian to "Star" and the group's dazzling performances prove they live up to the name. Since their inception in 1972, the main goal of Zirka has been to preserve and promote the rich Ukrainian heritage through Ukrainian dance and authentic costumes from the various regions of Ukraine.
The performances, which are free, are a part of the Children of the World in Harmony Youth Choir and Dance Festival produced by Voices Without Borders Inc.
