The Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra and Chorus will perform Carl Orff's work "Carmina Burana" on Sunday, June 10, in John M. Hall Auditorium in Bay View.
In preparation for the concert, there will be two public lectures titled "Carmina Burana, the Music and the Manuscript." The Charlevoix Public Library will host the first lecture at 6:30 p.m. today, Tuesday, May 29, and the second will be presented at Voorhies Hall on the Bay View campus at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 7.
Matthew Hazelwood, music director of the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra, is music director emeritus of the Battle Creek Symphony and currently serves as music director of the Colombian Music Education program, Batuta. Hazelwood will discuss Orff's setting of the music, which ranges from Gregorian chant to folk songs and choruses.
Both lectures are free and open to the public. Tickets for the June 10 concert are available at treatickets.com.
