Birth announcements (August 29, 2012)
A son, Malakai Aedan, was born to Matthew and Alicia Fettig of Austin, Texas, on Aug. 22, 2012. Malakai weighed 7 pounds, 3 ounces and was 20 1/2 inches long at birth. Grandparents are Richard and Charlene Fettig of Petoskey, and Robert and Karen Depwe of Austin, Texas. Great-grandparents are Robert and Ethel Stanley of Alanson.
A son, Cayman Oliver Zamarron, was born to Melanie and Ryan Zamarron of Harbor Springs at 12:40 p.m. Aug. 27, 2012, at McLaren Northern Michigan hospital in Petoskey. Cayman weighed 8 pounds, 5 ounces and was 20 1/2 inches long at birth. Grandparents are Mary and Barry Wagner of Port Huron, and George and Sue Zamarron of Grand Haven.

Prescription and Over-the-Counter Drug (POD) Drop-off Days set 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, at the Boyne City Road Commission building, and 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, Sept. 15, at the Emmet County Drop-off Center. Charlevoix Area Hospital's next "Wellness Wednesday" will be from 8-11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 5. The Wellness Wednesday health screens include: total cholesterol, HDL, ratio, and glucose levels, body mass index (BMI) score, fat percentage, and a blood pressure reading. No fasting required. However, if you are fasting an LDL and triglyceride reading can also be obtained. Cost for the service is $12. Participants will also receive a blood pressure log and all test results at the time of the screening. A registered nurse will adapt health consultation and educational materials to individual results. Crafters are needed for the Leaf Peeker Craft Show scheduled for 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, in downtown East Jordan.
