Choral society welcomes interim music director
David Gladstone (August 2, 2013)
Gladstone is a 1976 graduate of the University of Michigan School of Music with a master's degree in voice performance and an emphasis in choral conducting. He served as full time director of music in United Methodist churches in Michigan and Illinois for 13 years leading multiple choir music programs, including touring with his youth choir for 11 of those years. From 1975 through 2011, Gladstone served as the choral director for what is now the Lake Louise Choir Camp near Boyne Falls. In 2004, the camp youth choir was a featured worship choir at the United Methodist General Conference.
Gladstone brings a passion for choral music with an emphasis on the wedding of text and music to convey a message. He enjoys working with singers in rehearsal to achieve a high level of performance while experiencing the joy of singing.
Along with his degree from U-M, Gladstone is a graduate of Albion College, and holds a master of divinity degree from Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, Ill.
Gladstone is currently the executive director of the Lake Louise Christian Community Camp and Retreat Center near Boyne Falls. He was married to Terry Niles Gladstone for 38 years until her death in November 2011. They met as singers in the Cantata Academy of Metropolitan Detroit. They have two children, Carl, a deacon serving as director of the Young Leader Initiative of the Detroit Conference, and Mary, serving as director of mission and outreach at Clarkston United Methodist Church.
Kendall is a Michigan concert pianist noted for her performances in numerous venues across the United States. She is a member of the Windover Piano Duo, specializing in performing the music of women composers, as well as standard repertoire for solo and duo piano.
Kendall received a bachelor of music degree in piano performance from Michigan State University and a master of arts degree from the University of Michigan. She has served as accompanist for the Birmingham Musicale Choral Ensemble for the past seven years and currently for the Charlevoix Men's Chorus.
As a member of Windover, she has been a guest performer for Indiana University of Pennsylvania's faculty concert series, Murray State University's Athena Festival, People's Music School Summer Concerts in Chicago, and the International Congress for Women in Music in Beijing, China.
The Little Traverse Choral Society invites all area singers interested in performing classical and contemporary works of distinction to attend the first rehearsal of the season. Registration begins at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 10, at the Petoskey High School choral room.
