EAST JORDAN -- The First Presbyterian Church of East Jordan invites everyone to two special Sundays. The first is 9:30 a.m. Sunday, July 10, welcoming back Fred DeHaven, whose father was a former pastor at First Presbyterian Church. He most recently retired from 32 years as the organist and choir master of Christ Church in Grosse Pointe. A graduate of the University of Michigan and the Julliard School of Music, DeHaven if offering a mini-recital during worship.
He has served as the conductor of choirs and organ recitalist in England, including Westminster Abbey; St. Paul's Cathedral in London; at Notre Dame and St. Sulpice in Paris, as well as in Germany, Italy, the Baltic countries, and Russia. In 1995, the choir from Christ Church toured Australia and New Zealand. On several occasions, his choirs have sung at the National Cathedral in Washington. Music at 11 a.m. Sunday, July 17, features local talent. Following is a picnic with special activities for children.
HARBOR SPRINGS -- Stutsmanville Chapel has two completely different style worship services at 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m., Sunday, July 10. Pastor Ed Warner shares in a more traditional service at 9:30 a.m. and Mark Smith, youth director shares in a more relaxed atmosphere in the second service. Nursery for 1 to 3-year-olds is provided in both services. Children's Sunday school is at 9:30 a.m. and children's church is during the 11 a.m. service.
