Video: Johnny Manziel at SEC Media Days
Tim Tebow has reached out to Johnny Manziel.
Why isn't this surprising?
Tebow, after all, is known for going to third-world countries and trying to save lost souls from the temptations of the world. Why not go to College Station and try to save Manziel from himself?
Manziel, the Heisman Trophy winner from Texas A&M who has been embroiled in controversy for much of the offseason, met with the media at SEC Media Days on Wednesday. When I asked him if he's talked to Tebow about his issues, he said the former Gators great recently left a voicemail message for him.
"There's been some miscommunication ... and I haven't talked to him personally, but I really would like to get a chance to," Manziel said. "Tebow's a guy I really look up to. He's an SEC legend. I hope I can reach the level and do what he did at Florida."
If anybody should be able to give Manziel some advice about becoming a college football rock star at a young age, it's Tebow. At Florida, Tebow became the first sophomore in history to win a Heisman. At A&M last season, Manziel became the first freshman to ever win the Heisman.
When Manziel was asked if the public expects him to live a Tebow-like lifestyle, he replied: "I'm not Tebow. I'm different in many ways. Hopefully (the public) accepts me for me."
I will write more on Manziel's appearance at SEC Media Days in a column later today. You can stay updated on all breaking news and interviews at SEC Media Days SEC Media Days by reading OrlandoSentinel.com/sports.
