For the third time in the four years of the event, the Southeast squad, made up mostly of high school seniors from Florida and Georgia, won the Champion Gridiron Kings 7-on-7 Tournament at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports.

The Southeast squad rolled past the Midwest team 47-19 in the title game on Sunday with Georgia commit Brice Ramsey, a quarterback at Kingsland (Ga.) Camden County High, earning the offensive MVP honors, and Florida commit Vernon Hargreaves III, a cornerback at Tampa Wharton, earning defensive MVP.

Ramsey threw seven touchdown passes, with Seffner Armwood’s Alvin Bailey catching three, Orlando Jones’ Lavonte “Kermit” Whitfield and Orlando Evans’ Tony Stevens, a Florida State pledge, both catching two.

Other Florida representatives on the Southeast team were Florida pledge LB Quinton Powell of Daytona Beach Mainland, CB Will Likely of Belle Glade Glades Central, LB Matthew Thomas of Miami Booker T. Washington, FSU commit RB Ryan Green of St. Petersburg Catholic, S Leon McQuay of Seffner Armwood, CB Sojourn Shelton of Plantation, and ATH Reggie Wilkerson of Ocala North Marion (Georgia commit).

Florida players were also spread among the other three regional teams, with Miami commit WR Travis Johnson of Tampa Jesuit playing in the title game for the Midwest squad. Dr. Phillips S Marcell Harris and Miramar LB Jermaine Grace were part of the Southwest team and Orlando Evans WR Dominic Walker was a member of the West squad.

Harris, sighting fatigue in his right leg, opted to sit out Sunday's semifinals.

Johnson had a humorous take on the outcome of the championship game.

"I had to go out there and compete for another area even though I am from the Southeast," Johnson said. "Even though they won I was kinda joking around saying I won too because I am from that area."
