Jupiter's Tyler Cameron, the top-ranked quarterback in the state and No. 45-ranked player over in the Sentinel's 2012 Florida Top 100, has switched his previous college commitment from USF and has now pledged to Wake Forest.
Cameron, who visited Winston-Salem, N.C., almost exactly one month ago, posted on his Facebook page about 5 p.m. on Saturday, "Proud to be apart(sic) of the Wake Forest family!!! Go Demon Deacons!!!"
It's an interesting move for Cameron (6-foot-3, 210 pounds) given Wake's depth at the quarterback position. He does fill a void in this class left by the decommitment of Allen (Texas) QB Alec Morris, who is now committed to Alabama.
But the Deacs have eight quarterbacks on their current roster, none of which are seniors. Sophomore Tanner Price is the starter and the back-up QB is redshirt-junior Ted Stachitas. In with the other five Wake quarterbacks is former Orlando Lake Nona standout Kevin Sousa, a freshman who did not play this season and is headed for a redshirt.
Cameron is ranked by Rivals.com as the No. 9 dual-threat quarterback in the country and the No. 50 prospect in Florida's 2012 class.
