An Orlando man is in jail Thursday after trying to rape a 9-year-old girl, police said.

The child went to her bedroom for a lollipop when 52-year-old Richard Arvin Guevara allegedly pushed the child on to her bed and climbed on top of her, according to an Orlando Police Department arrest report.

Terrified, the child began kicking, screaming and crawling toward the head of the bed away from Guevara, but he pulled her back toward the bottom of the bed, the report said.

The girl tried escaping three times, but told police Guevara kept dragging her back onto the bed.

Guevara told the child if she didn't stop screaming that he would tell her family she was stealing money, the report said.

Guevara pulled the child's clothing off while covering her mouth with his hand and was allegedly attempting to rape her when a family member walked in.

The family member hit Guevara until he left the room, the report said.

"She's lying, she's lying. I would never do anything like that," Guevara told police.

Multiple police officers interviewed the child and the family member who walked in on the attack and arrested Guevara Sunday.

Guevara was booked into the Orange County Jail on charges of false imprisonment of a child, lewd lascivious behavior on a child and sexual battery on a child.
