Reinforcements should arrive just as the Orlando Magic play one of the more important games of their regular season.
Jameer Nelson expects to play tonight against the Charlotte Bobcats after he missed almost all of Sunday night’s game in Denver with a left-calf contusion.
“I’m quite sure I’ll be fine once my adrenaline starts flowing tonight,” Nelson said after the Magic finished their shootaround at Amway Center.
Coach Stan Van Gundy said Earl Clark (left knee) and Quentin Richardson (calf) also are expected to play.
The Magic would clinch the 6th seed in the upcoming playoffs with a win tonight or a win Thursday night in Memphis.
Orlando also would secure the 6th spot if the New York Knicks lose tonight to the Los Angeles Clippers at Madison Square Garden or on Thursday in Charlotte.
The No. 6 seed will face the Indiana Pacers in the first round of the playoffs. The No. 7 seed will face the Miami Heat in the opening round.
If given a choice between securing the 6th seed tonight or on Thursday, the Magic would prefer to clinch tonight.
Their first-round playoff series could begin as early as Saturday, and you’d have to think Van Gundy would want to rest Nelson and Glen Davis and perhaps other starters in Memphis to make sure they’re as fresh as possible for the postseason.Follow Josh Robbins on Twitter at @JoshuaBRobbins and e-mail him at firstname.lastname@example.org.
