The Orange County Regional History Center in Orlando is calling for nominations from the community for the 2013 Donald A. Cheney Award. The winner will be selected by the Past President's Council of the Historical Society of Central Florida, and the award will be given at the Historical Society's annual meeting on Sept. 18.
The Past President's Council of the Historical Society established the Donald A. Cheney Award in the early 1990s. The award is named for Judge Donald A. Cheney who founded the Historical Society of Central Florida and was instrumental in the founding of the Central Florida Boy Scout Council, Central Florida YMCA, and Orlando Rotary Club. It recognizes individuals in the Central Florida community who have followed Cheney's mission of historic preservation and community service.
Nominations should be no longer than one page and should explain how the nominee has championed local history and supported local historic preservation efforts, and how they have improved the community through civic engagement.
