One man was shot dead Monday night in the parking lot of an east Orange County apartment complex, and another man was hospitalized in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the head, the Sheriff's Office said.
The shootings occurred at the Waterside Apartments on Shoals Drive about 5 p.m. Witnesses reported hearing three to five gunshots and seeing people running, said Cpl. Tony Brisinte, the lead investigator.
Deputies said they are seeking one or two suspects who escaped in a blue or green car. Brisinte said investigators don't know the motive behind the shootings.
While crime scene investigators worked, about 20 people were prevented from returning to their apartments to avoid contaminating the scene.
The apartments are in the Goldenrod neighborhood south of Aloma Avenue and west of Hall Road.
The homicide was the second of 2011 in Orange County. The first victim was Lamonte Herring, 25, who was found dead Jan. 2 in the trunk of a burning car found in woods in northwest Orange.
