Janus Jurisoo, 33, made a quick decision to tackle and subdue 65-year-old Freddie Johnson, who was demanding prescription pills from a CVS worker with what appeared to be a gun in the pocket of his jacket.
As Johnson walked toward the pharmacy in the back of the store, Jurisoo told the clerk in the front of the store to call 911. Jurisoo then began to follow Johnson, who was yelling "put all the pills in the bag or I'll shoot."
Jurisoo waited for Johnson to be distracted by the pills a worker was handing over before grabbing him from behind and bringing him to the ground.
"I told him not to resist to stay down or I'd punch him too," Jurisoo told WTSP.
Sarasota police arrived shortly after. According to Sarasota Police Chief Bernadette DiPino, Johnson walked into the CVS store with the intention to steal large quantities of Oxycodone and Hydromorphone pills.
Johnson is charged with one count of armed robbery. He is facing a similar charge for an earlier robbery of Hedges Pharmacy on Feb. 27.
