Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve previewed some of the top freshman and sophomores to watch heading into fall camp. This week, we’re taking a look at a group of juniors to keep an eye on. Some are household names while others could be by the end of the season.
Today we feature ….
Stephon Tuitt, DE, Notre Dame
The Buzz: A big part of Notre Dame’s success last season was based on the team’s strong defense centered around the front line. Tuitt was part of that defensive line on a Fighting Irish squad that was ranked seventh in the country in total defense. The 6-foot-6, 303-pound defensive lineman led the team in sacks (12) and was second in tackles (47). He also forced three fumbles and returned one of them 77-yards for a touchdown in the season-opening win against Navy in Ireland. It was his first career touchdown. He had five tackles in Notre Dame’s 42-14 loss against Alabama in the BCS Championship Game in Miami. Tuitt and nose guard Louis Nix III are two of the best defensive lineman in the country and will be crucial pieces if Notre Dame is to continue its return to glory.
