Jeremy Pruitt might have a black mark beside his name for some Florida State fans after the defensive coordinator left the Seminoles on Tuesday for a similar position at Georgia.

That's not the case for 2014 FSU commit Blake McClain, a defensive end at Jacksonville Sandalwood.

McClain said he spoke with Pruitt about 4 p.m., Tuesday.

"He told me, 'Florida State is the place for you to go,' and he wished me the best of luck," McClain said. "It just shows he is a real upstanding guy and I really do appreciate that call."

McClain, a 6-foot-3, 257-pound defensive end, said Pruitt was instrumental in his recruitment to FSU.

"It was a little bit of a disappointment, but for the most part I don't think much has changed," McClain said.

While McClain said he remains committed to FSU, he will listen to all comers, and he said North Carolina defensive coordinator Dan Disch was the first to contact him since Pruitt's decision to leave.

"I feel kind of good about it," McClain said of other schools reaching out to him. He also expects he might hear from Florida, Virginia Tech and Miami. "I'm not really sure exactly what I'm going to do at this point, so it will be good to have other colleges give me a call so I can talk with them."

McClain, a Sandalwood teammate of linebackler Kain Daub, committed to the Seminoles in March of last year. Daub, who is one of four early 2014 enrollees at FSU, committed in January.
