2B Nick Franklin (Lake Brantley), a first-round pick by the Seattle Mariners in the 2009 amateur draft, was promoted to the major leagues for the first time Monday.

He was not in the starting lineup for an afternoon game against the San Diego Padres at Safeco Field.

Franklin was hitting .324 with four home runs and 20 RBIs in 39 games for Tacoma of the Class AAA Pacific Coast League.

Franklin was ranked 43rd on the list of top 100 prospects by mlb.com entering this season. He took the roster spot of another former first-round pick, 2B Dustin Ackley, who was sent to the minors.
