(Update: Gainesville attorney Huntley Johnson said Morrison released Monday on his own recognizance. Timetable is two weeks to two months for case to be resolved.)

Gators sophomore linebacker Antonio Morrison was arrested early Sunday for allegedly punching a bouncer at a Gainesville bar — the first arrest of a Florida player during a quiet offseason for coach Will Muschamp's team.

A Gainesville Police Department report stated Morrison became "irate" over the cover charge to enter the Kava Bar and Hookah Lounge and began to argue with the bouncer.

Per the report, Morrison said, "Do you know who I am. I am a UF football player. I am Antonio!"

Morrison, who is listed at 6-foot-1, 240 pounds, then punched the man in the left side of the head before leaving the scene.

Morrison, 19, later was charged with first-degree simple battery — a second-class misdemeanor — and booked into Alachua County Jail at 6:07 a.m. According to the report, Morrison admitted to police he was involved in a scuffle and intoxicated at the time.

He told police the incident "wasn't a big deal." The strike left the victim with visible swelling, the report stated.

A native of Chicago, Morrison remained in Alachua County lockup as of 1 p.m. Sunday.

UF released a statement that read, "Coach Muschamp is aware and handling the matter."

Morrison, the team's starting middle linebacker, is expected to be one of the leaders of a Florida defense looking to replace seven starters from the nation's fifth-ranked unit.

Morrison started three games last season while Jelani Jenkins battled injuries and finished 2012 with 34 tackles - most among Gators' freshmen.

Morrison is best remembered for his momentum-changing hit of Florida State quarterback EJ Manuel in the Gators' 37-26 win Nov. 24 in Tallahassee to end the regular season. Florida State had erased a 13-0 lead and led 20-16 when Morrison nailed Manuel and forced a fumble recovered by Florida.

On the next play, Mike Gillislee scored on a 37-yard run and the Gators never trailed again.
