Lake City Columbia defensive back and Florida State commit Trey Marshall is recovering after undergoing emergency surgery on a ruptured stomach he sustained during a contest against Tallahassee Lincoln.
The Gainesville Sun reports that Marshall (5-11, 196) was injured on a “vicious helmet hit to the gut" during the first quarter of Thursday's road game against Lincoln.
According to the report, Marshall was motionless on the field and was escorted onto a stretcher before being taken directly to the hospital.
Columbia coach Brian Allen told the Sun that Marshall was slated to move to ICU this weekend and standard recovery for his specific injury is four-six weeks.
Marshall is considered one of the top prospects in the state. 247Sports ranks him as a top 100 recruit nationally in the Class of 2014 and the No. 8 player in Florida.
