The 51-year-old Petrino was injured in an April 1 motorcycle accident. Former Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino will be the next football coach at Western Kentucky.
Petrino replace Willie Taggart, who left the program to take the head coach job at USF Saturday.
Petrino spent four seasons at Arkansas where he was 34-17. He was fired in March following a scandal that involved providing a job and cash for a female employee whom he was having an extramarital affair. Previous to his stop in Little Rock, he spent four seasons as the head coach at Louisville.
Meanwhile, Colorado is reportedly set to name Mike MacIntyre as its next head coach.
MacIntyre spent the previous three seasons as the head coach at San Jose State, where he led the Spartans to a 16-21 overall record including this season’s 10-2 record. He replaces Jon Embree, who was fired earlier this month following a 1-11 season.
