A University of Central Florida student's blood was tested for alcohol after she was accused of causing a fatal head-on crash early Saturday.
McKinnon 22, of Oviedo was driving eastbound on Lake Pickett Road near Tanner Road when her two-door Mitsubishi crossed into the westbound lane, crashing into a Toyota van and killing its driver, Montes said.
The van driver, Vinh Vo, 42, of Orlando, died at the scene, officials said.
"He was an amazing father and man," a woman who declined to give her name told the Orlando Sentinel in a brief phone call Saturday.
Orange County Fire and Rescue responded to the scene first and was able to remove McKinnon from her vehicle, where she was "briefly trapped," Montes said.
McKinnon was admitted to the Orlando Regional Medical Center for minor injuries and her blood was drawn for a blood-alcohol test, Montes said.
Results will take about eight to 10 weeks.
McKinnon was wearing her seat belt, FHP said.
She is a UCF student majoring in biomedical sciences in the College of Medicine, school records show. She graduated from Paul J. Hagerty High School in Oviedo, where she was on the honor roll, records show.
The crash remains under investigation with charges pending.
