Oak Ridge claims Metro title
Oak Ridge (15-8) claimed the Metro Conference East Division title and earned the top seed slot in 8A, District 5 boys basketball bracket with a 72-63 win at Winter Park (20-3). Junior guard Antonio Blakeney 25 points, six rebounds and six assists in the victory. Alex Owens added 14 points and 19 rebounds and Marquel Willis 16 points and six rebounds for the Pioneers. Deandre Turner had 20 points for the Wildcats.
Royals rout Windermere Prep
Fletcher Magee scored 22 points as First Academy (16-6, 7-1) rolled to an 83-52 win over Windermere Prep to finish in a tie for first place in 3A, District 6. The Lakers (17-6, 7-1) played without injured leading scorer Quinton Forrest.
Taylor leads Boone past Patriots
Area scoring leader B.J. Taylor scored 31 points to surpass 800 for the season and Boone (15-8) won 60-52 over Freedom (9-12). The Braves completed district play with a perfect record.
Mosley, Wolves win
Toledo recruit Stuckey Mosley scored 27 points and Timber Creek (15-7) won 78-63 over Leesburg. Troy Willis had 29 points for the Yellow Jackets. ¿
Seminole prevails in overtime
Earl Williams had 22 points to pace Seminole (10-13) in a 65-62 overtime victory over Lake Brantley in boys basketball.
Ryan Apple added 19 points for Seminole, including two free throws that tied up the game with 3.7 seconds in the fourth quarter.
“He calmly made them,” said head coach Bob Traina. “They even called a time out between the two to put pressure on him, but he made the second and sent it into overtime.”
John Mooney recorded 20 points for Lake Brantley.
Dr. Phillips wins in Super 16 matchup
Jonathan Laurent had 22 points and 14 rebounds to lead Dr. Phillips (14-7) to a 62-49 win over Edgewater (17-6) in a matchup of Super 16 teams.
Evans squeaks past Apopka
Benly Olizia scored 24 points and C.J. Willamson 18 as Evans (17-5) won 67-53 against Apopka.
Bishop Moore rallies for win
Gerry Aviles had 14 of his 18 points after halftime as Bishop Moore (14-9) rallied from down 10 to win 48-41 over Geneva School.
East River dominates
Deontae Weaver scored 17 points and East River (7-15) topped Orlando University 60-57 in overtime.
Lake Mary (14-8) rallied from eight points down to pull out a 50-49 district win over Hagerty. T.J. Sanford had 15 points for the Rams and had the game-winning shot with four seconds left.
Willie Carmichael had 17 points and 11 rebounds and Wekiva (19-3) won 61-50 over Clermont East Ridge (7-15).
Quay Harper scored 19 points to lead a balanced Oviedo (19-4) to a 63-45 win over Winter Springs.
Kordell Johnson scored 20 points and Celebration (14-7) topped Kissimmee Liberty 56-50.
“Two even teams just battling it out,” said Celebration assistant Corey Green. “It was a battle of wills, Celebration style vs. Liberty style.”
