U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Shultz said she's urged Gov. Rick Scott to veto a bill that would block any adoption of local mandatory paid sick time measures, such as one pending in Orange County.
The Westin Democrat and other progressive panelists on the MSNBC show All In with Chris Hays said that getting paid time off is crucial to combating a lingering wage gap between men and women.
“I wrote the governor a letter urging him to veto the bill, I hope he will,” Wasserman Shultz said.
Women who are forced to risk their job to care for a sick loved one, or only get unpaid time off to deal with illness, will always struggle to catch up in wages to men, other panelists said.
The MSNBC panel on Wednesday discussed the new Pew Research released which shows that 40 percent of all households with children under 18 have a woman as the top or sole "breadwinner."
