Josh Brolin (No Country for Old Men, American Gangster) directed his daughter Eden Brolin and a couple of character actors in the short X, a gritty little Joshua Tree desert ode to a promise a dad keeps with his daughter.

Father and daughter drive and drive and drive in a vintage Mercury Cougar to a spot in the middle of the Southern California desert. That's where Dad (Vincent Riverside) has learned, in prison, that "mom" is buried. The self-assured if slow 15-minute movie is about what they do with that body.

Eleanor Lambert, the daughter of Brolin's wife, Diane Lane (the child from her marriage to Christopher Lambert), appears in one scene.

Screening as part of the shorts program 1, "Hustle": Saturday, March 29, 11:30 a.m.– 1:05 p.m. at Regal; Tuesday, April 1, 7 p.m.–8:55 p.m. at Regal
