Dr. Janet Talmo recently joined the Physicians Clinic of Charlevoix on the campus of Charlevoix Area Hospital. Dr. Talmo has more than 25 years of experience in medicine, including family practice and teaching, and she is now accepting new patients at her Charlevoix office.
Originally from the Grand Rapids area, Dr. Talmo practiced medicine there as part of the multi-specialty group Advantage Health. She also taught as an assistant professor at the Michigan State Medical School for 25 years and instructed residents through the Family Practice Grand Rapids Residency Program. Several students of hers are now doctors in our area. Dr. Andrea Wendling, of the Boyne Area Medical Center, was one of Dr. Talmo's residents in 1997, and was a partner with Dr. Talmo for seven years before moving up north.
Other area doctors Dr. Talmo instructed are Dr. Catherine Wonski, Dr. Mark Smith, Dr. James Jeakle, Dr. Mike Harmeling, and Dr. Pamela R. Knysz of Charlevoix Area Hospital and Dr. Carin Nielsen of Northern Michigan Regional Health System in Petoskey.
"With many of us having been students of Dr. Talmo during our training, we are very excited to be able to work with her again," says Dr. Harmeling. "We're certain her warm personality and excellent clinical skills will be a great addition to our community."
Dr. Talmo said she is happy to have relocated to there area, where she enjoys the community and pace of life. She and her husband owned a cottage in the area for the past 25 years, and recently decided that they would like to move here permanently. Dr. Talmo's husband, Dr. Thomas R. Spooner, is an ear nose and throat specialist who now practices in Petoskey. For Dr. Talmo, the opportunity to practice at Physicians Clinic and Charlevoix Area Hospital was a perfect way for her to maintain her involvement in medicine, while meeting the goal of slowing down in an area both she and her husband love.
She joins Dr. Geralyn Doskoch and Dr. Deborah Smith at Physicians Clinic.
Dr. Talmo is board certified in family medicine. She earned her undergraduate degree at the University of Pennsylvania with a bachelor's degree in nursing and then received her medical education at the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine in East Lansing. Dr. Talmo completed her internship and residency at Grand Rapids Area Family Medicine, and she specialized in the entire scope of family, women and child care.
Dr. Talmo sees patients on Monday and Wednesday from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. at 14709 W. Upright St. She is also available to schedule earlier morning appointments if desired. To set an appointment, call (231) 547-6519.
