Austin, Texas has contributed a great deal to the music world, what with it being a destination for live music and high profile festivals and all. The bands who call the city home are just as notable as any of Austin's many famous live music venues. One of these bands, post-rock dudes Explosions in the Sky, sound just as big and mighty as the state they hail from. Their music, purely instrumental, is at times intricate, soothing, atmospheric, haunting or just plain beautiful. Their song titles tend to be nearly as long as the songs themselves, with songs called "Six Days at the Bottom of the Ocean," "Remember Me as a Time of Day" and "With Tired Eyes, Tired Minds, Tired Souls, We Slept." All of these elemants combine to make the listener emote without being told how to do so. It's kinda magical. Explosions in the Sky play Toad's Place on Fri., Aug. 9, a rare appearance in our neck of the woods. Don't miss it.
