Independence Day beckons, and with it comes the celebration of all the things that make our country great. For 32 years, Hartford's party has taken place down by the riverside, so get yourself and your family there for fireworks, live bands, clowns and other strolling entertainers, fun stuff to do for kids and plenty of grub. It's brought to you once again by Riverfront Recapture, who along with generous corporate sponsors and the City of Hartford offer you the summertime goods for free. The fireworks will be shot from three (!) pyrotechnic firing barges out on the Connecticut River starting at 9 p.m. When it's over, riverfront fun continues this summer and early fall with the annual Ray Gonzalez Latin Jazz & Salsa Festival (July 28), the Taste of the Caribbean & Jerk Festival (Aug. 4), the Riverfront Dragon Boat and Asian Festival (Aug. 18-19) and the Pipes In The Valley Celtic Festival (Sept. 29).
July 7, Mortensen Riverfront Plaza, 300 Constitution Plaza, Hartford and Great River Park, East River Drive, East Hartford, riverfront.org.
