Historical marker recognizes one-time Harford resident Dr. Howard Kelly's gift of Florida parkland

Apopka, Fla. – Anyone who's ever cooled off in the 68-degree waters of Rock Springs Run owes Howard A. Kelly a thank-you.

Orange County officially extended its long-overdue gratitude on Feb. 19, dedicating a permanent historical marker in honor of the late doctor and his 1927 gift of 260 acres that include the spring, one of Central Florida's most popular natural venues.

"He saved it from being a gravel pit," Kelly's grandson, 88-year-old Woollcott Kelly said after the unveiling.
