7. The Front Burner: Smokin' Hot barbecue is true to its name

April 1st (aka April Fool's Day) marked the second anniversary of the grand opening of a strip center eatery that calls itself <a href="http://www.smokinhotbarandgrille.com">Smokin' Hot Bar and Grille. Don't let the name fool you, though. Yes, wings, ribs and pit beef are among the most popular items here, according to chef/owner Brett Arnold, but lots of crab cakes are consumed on (and off) premises as well. And too, the steaks get good play, especially on Tuesday, when a 12-ounce New York strip goes for $12.95, and on Wednesday, when the steak is paired with a crab cake for $15.95

  11. Real Chablis is the perfect table companion

Real Chablis from Chablis, France, is an electric, kinetic glass of wine. One sip skates across your palate like Hans Brinker on ice. The second sip has your electrons vibrating at a higher level. It bursts with a minerality that echoes the sea. Small...

  15. Slip into Copeland's, where Mardi Gras stretches year round

  17. Restaurant review: Liberatore's of Eldersburg is full of personality

Dante Liberatore works a room in a way that few restaurateurs care to, or dare to, these days. We saw him compel a sour patron to concede that her wait for a table had been exactly as long as he said it would be. She wasn't thrilled, but her husband was. Later we heard him tell a diner at a nearby table that if she still didn't like a pasta dish the kitchen remade for her, he would eat it himself. She didn't like it, and he ate it. That's part of the fun at Liberatore's of Eldersburg.

  21. Restaurant review: Pizza only part of the tale at Chazz

Somehow people got it into their heads that Chazz: A Bronx Original was a glorified pizza parlor. Maybe it was the pre-opening articles that documented the pizza discovery tours and fact-finding missions embarked upon by the principals involved with this flashy and thoroughly engaging new Harbor East restaurant.

  23. Restaurant Review: Sammy's Trattoria has moments of competent charm

Sammy's Trattoria opened five years ago in a Mount Vernon space that was widely considered a jinx. Tampico and Limoges opened and closed with impressive speed before Sammy's moved in with a modest and appealing menu of Italian favorites.
