  1. The Front Burner: Smokin' Hot barbecue is true to its name

April 1st (aka April Fool's Day) marked the second anniversary of the grand opening of a strip center eatery that calls itself <a href=&quot;http://www.smokinhotbarandgrille.com">Smokin' Hot Bar and Grille</a>. Don't let the name fool you, though. Yes, wings, ribs and pit beef are among the most popular items here, according to chef/owner Brett Arnold, but lots of crab cakes are consumed on (and off) premises as well. And too, the steaks get good play, especially on Tuesday, when a 12-ounce New York strip goes for $12.95, and on Wednesday, when the steak is paired with a crab cake for $15.95

  3. Restaurant review: Corner Bistro and Wine Bar is cute and homey

The Corner Bistro &amp; Wine Bar is the kind of restaurant you want to tell everyone you know about &#8212; not because you want them to experience how great it is for themselves, but because you selfishly want the business to stay open so you can go back again and again. It's that good.

  7. Treat yourself to a rich and fragrant soup or chowder

This everyday busy time of year, this kind of weather — there's no need to make a case for eating soup. Homemade soup, that is. Rich and fragrant, filled with all the goodies you like to use and which, ostensibly, your family likes to eat. And not...

  15. Sweet potato or green bean casserole? Neither -- Chazz Palminteri's Brussels sprouts

Russell Brown, executive chef at O'Learys Seafood Restaurant in Annapolis, was in Today's Kitchen on Nov. 18 with Al Roker and Natalie Morales. The funniest thing happened. See, Brown is demonstrating how to make swordfish steak au poivre, and Morales notices that among the ingredients on the counter was white wine. So, Morales asks Brown about it, and then Al Roker makes it seem like Morales was interested because she wanted to DRINK the wine!!!!!

  19. In Spain for Thanksgiving, pining for Dundalk

SEVILLE, Spain&mdash; Here, the orange trees are the only things changing color as autumn takes its hold. The palmeras and the jasmine vines that climb the wall outside my apartment &mdash; and fill the patio below with an inimitable scent &mdash; are alive and will flourish well into winter. The cypress trees in the gorgeous royal gardens of Alc&aacute;zar, silent witnesses to endearing displays of Spanish affection, have been that same dusty green for dozens, if not hundreds, of years and won't start changing now.

  23. Adventures in Korean dining in Howard County

Our first forays into Korean dining taught us some valuable lessons: Expect the unexpected, and don't be surprised if the wait staff doesn't speak fluent English. Be patient, open-minded and -- most of all -- enjoy the food, because it's delicious.
